“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven” – (Eccl. 3.1)
This past week, I asked our church staff to reflect on a simple but important question: What season of ministry are you in right now? The responses were thoughtful and honest—some described a season of growth, others a time of waiting, pruning, or even rebuilding. It was a meaningful conversation, and I left thinking, our whole church might benefit from this reflection.
Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that life comes to us in seasons. Just like spring turns to summer and summer gives way to fall, we all go through seasons—some busy, some monotonous. Some seasons are full of joy, others are difficult, still others uncertain. Just like the weather, we don’t get to choose the season we’re in. But here’s what we do get to choose: how we respond to it.
Each season holds its own purpose. God is at work in and through you, even if the season feels dry or dormant. Maybe this is a time for healing, for learning, for letting go, or for taking bold steps forward. I invite you to consider a few questions. Let them be a point of reflection and prayer for you this weekend. Ask yourself: What season am I in right now? What might God be doing in me during this season? What needs to shift in my heart or my habits to respond to this season faithfully?
You may not be able to change the season, but you can ask God to help you grow through it.
So—what season are you in? Knowing that can shape how you choose to respond.
Peace,
Matt
P.S. This weekend we will be finishing our series We Just Click: God’s Design for Meaningful Relationships. We will be talking about friendships. Also, we will be blessing all our graduating seniors at each site. If you are a senior (or have one), you can let us know you are coming here or just show up. We will pray for all of you after the message.
