May the God of endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude toward each other, similar to Christ Jesus’ attitude.

Romans 15:5

Reflection
If you were going to describe God, what attributes come to mind? Love. Peace. Hope. Alive. Lord. King. Savior. Creator. Did Endurer or Encourager make your list? Paul, praying for unity and Christ-likeness, reveals God is the “God of endurance and encouragement.” As Endurer, God demonstrates and shares strength to continue and last despite the obstacles. As Encourager, God assures us we are not alone, and communicates our worth and capability.
Endurance and encouragement are often linked. When you’re going through a tough time, how often have you been encouraged after visiting with someone who made it through a similar experience? When others are cheering for you, it can give you the strength to persevere. The sharing of this type of comfort shows what God is like: enduring forever, encouraging always.

Prayer
God, our source of endurance and encouragement, help us to persevere in our trails, and give us courage to comfort those with that same comfort we received from you. Amen.
